We have 28 weeks until the 3-day so why am I already starting to train? Walking 60 miles over 3 days is not an easy task for anyone. It takes a lot of determination. I want to enjoy the time walking with my team and celebrating life as a "survivor" instead of hobbling along on blistered feet and praying for a sweep van to come along and pick me up. I have struggled with my weight for years and I want to put this issue behind me. There are 3 big reasons why I want to lose weight and get in shape and stay in shape. One of the biggest reasons is because, maintaining a healthy weight and regular exercise can cut my chance of reoccurance by 50%. That is a huge amount. I don't want to ever face cancer again. There is so much about cancer that is not in my control but this is one thing I can do. Weight gain is also one of the causes of lymphedema www.lymphedema.com, which is something I don't want to have to suffer through either. The 2nd big reason is my children. I want them to see exercise and eating healthy as a way of life and not just some diet plan that comes and goes since this can cut their chances considerably of developing cancer and also heart disease which is the other big killer!. The 3rd big reason is that I want to feel good and be able to keep up with my 2 active kids and my active husband. There are 28 weeks until the walk and I am excited to get moving. At this point, my plan is to get used to walking regularly again. My goal right now is to start walking approx. 3 miles a day 4 times a week and I also am going to do some kind of cross training at least 1 time a week. Let's get started!! Who is going to join me?
