My friend Dusty Showers who started the group called The 2nd Basemen, works so hard doing unusual things to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. You may have seen pictures of him on facebook wearing a pink bra and a pink cowboy hat. He has came up with this idea called "Project Survivor". "The idea of this project is to give the gift of the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure™ to a recent breast cancer Survivor. The 2nd Basemen will provide the emotional support, the physical equipment and the financial backing necessary to complete this life-changing event. It is our wish to provide this experience in each of the 15 host cities for the 3-Day across the country." This is a huge commitment for them since each walker commits to raising a minimum of $2,300. Dusty has the amazing opportunity to talk about this cause on "The Oprah Winfrey" show on May 5. We are hoping this will help him to raise the funds that it will take to accomplish this. They have not found a survivor in each host city yet but I am sure they will soon. If you know any "Survivor" in any of the 3-day cities who would be a good candidate for this project, let us know. I am so excited to announce that The 2nd Basemen have chosen Joanne Jinks from my team "Kat's Courage" to be the Atlanta survivor. Joanne was diagnosed shortly after I was and had many complications along the way. She also went through this battle as a single mom. She is really excited about this opportunity to celebrate being a survivor in such a great way. I have accepted the job as "Survivor Specialist" for Atlanta. This basically means that I will be Joanne's official cheerleader. This is such a great project to me. When I was recovering from chemo therapy and surgery(bi lateral mastectomy), I began to feel like I was getting my life back as I started training for the 3-day and raising money. There is no feeling like walking into closing ceremonies after training for months and walking ( hobbling) 60 miles over 3 days. Thousands of people cheering for you who have all given so much time and money and support to this cause. I can't wait to be there walking hand in hand with Joanne as she gets to experience this great event.

Katrina,
You are a natural encourager and will be an awesome Survivor Specialist!
Emily,
You are so kind and I am so excited to be on your team.
You are AMAZING! I just noticed you on my blog and thought I'd check out your blog... I was in tears just reading your bio. I'm reaching through this comment here and giving you a HUGE hug! Bless your heart. My mom is a recent survivor and it absolutely KILLS me to see what breast cancer does, but it make me that much more passionate about doing my part to find a cure. You are such an inspiration!
