3 weeks away and we are almost ready
We still have about 15 team t-shirts in XL and 2X for a $20 donation. We are still selling raffle tickets for the beautiful breast cancer quilt. We will be doing the drawing on October 1 to kick off breast cancer awareness month. I will post the video of the drawing here like I did before.
We also have silicone breast cancer bracelets, "Kat's Courage" tote bags, breast cancer pins, buttons, pens and beautiful beaded pink earrings. Let us know how we can help you stock up on breast cancer items to get ready for "Pinktober" and support my team in this cause.

8 weeks until 60 miles
We still have quite a few XL team t-shirts and a few other sizes too, for a $20 donation. Also we are raffling off a beautiful breast cancer quilt on October 1. The tickets are $1 each or $5 for 6 tickets. We have silicone bracelets, "Kat's Courage" tote bags. Breast cancer buttons and pins. Let us know if you want us to send you something. All money raised will go directly to Susan G. Komen 3-day For The Cure. Click on the link and donate directly to any of my team members fund raising page. We would love your support in any way. I just had my 6 month check up with my Oncologist. I got pretty anxious as my appointment got closer. I guess that is just what happens as they move my appointments further apart. It gives time for the fear to build up. My Dr. thinks that I am doing very well and my chance of recurrance is very small. That is great to hear but I am still constantly hearing of someone else being diagnosed or having a recurrence. 111 Women and 1 man die each day in our country from breast cancer. Help us to put an end to this disease that attacks 1 in 6 women in the US.

12 weeks $12,000

October is a very special time for me. It marks 3 years since my breast cancer diagnosis. I thank God for his healing and my continued good health! October also is breast cancer awareness month and the ATL 3-day breast cancer walk.
I really appreciate how much you have supported me in the past. I just realized that we have 12 weeks until the 2010 3-day and we have to raise $12,000 more for all 8 of my team members to be able to walk. We have really cool team t-shirts for a $20 donation. We have a beautiful breast cancer quilt that we are raffling off on Oct. 1. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. ANY amount donated is greatly appreciated! Please donate to me or one of my team members so all 8 of us can walk and so we can put an end to breast cancer.
One person is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes in the United States. 111 Women and 1 man dies everyday in the US from breast cancer. No one should have to face this disease, so in order to create a future without breast cancer, I walk in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure.
Walking 60 miles is hard, but I will keep walking until breast cancer is no longer a threat. I walk for myself, my kids, my mom, my friends. I walk because everyone deserves a lifetime. I walk because I can. Love, Katrina

successful yard sale for cancer
We are so excited about the success of our first fund raising yard sale. We used an empty store space for our sale. The owner of the store, Henry Massey was a like a grand father to us and he passed away on Christmas day 2009 from cancer. This sale was in his memory. We have been overwhelmed with the support from all of our friends and family. We had an amazing amount of really great stuff to sort, clean, price and sell. We met our goal of $3,000 on Saturday and then on Sunday we made even more. We ended the weekend with the first drawing for one of our beautiful breast cancer quilts. The winner is a lady named Debbie Redd, who just finished chemo last Thursday for breast cancer. I was really excited that is was a sister breast cancer survivor who is just coming out of the fog of chemo and starting to get her life back a little. For those who didn't win the raffle, we will be keeping your name in the hat for the 2nd drawing on October 1. Let us know if anyone else wants tickets ($1 each or 6 for $5) or t-shirts or tote bags :) Just because the yard sale is over doesnt mean we are through. There is still not a cure and we still have some money to raise We met so many people this weekend who had stories of cancer. There was a girl who lost her 40 year old mother on Friday. It was hard for me to talk to her and hear her story since her mother and I are so close in age and her mother had a reoccurance that was found too late. My best friend Debra, who lost her own mother to cancer last year, was there to console her. We all wanted to take this girl home with us. There was a man and his daughter who drove from Fayetteville to meet us. He lost his wife in March to breast cancer. I met him on facebook and it was great to meet them in person and remind us of why we have been working so hard, missing time with our own kids for this cause. God showed us over and over that all of the work was worth it and that there is a purpose for all of this effort. Every penny that we raised will go to Henry County Cancer Services and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Thanks for your support!

Community "Chest" Yard Sale
The Double Bubble Bus has been on the road fund raising and supporting different cancer charities. We walked with The 2nd Basemen team in the Race For The Cure. We went to Relay For Life in Spaulding County and began to sell raffle tickets for our breast cancer quilts. We went to the square in Mcdonough for the first annual "Junkin' It" yard sale to benefit Henry County Cancer Services and we sold quite a few breast cancer items.
Now come and join us on June 4, 5 & 6, 2010....................... previous location of "Henry's Supply/Plumbing Store" | |

Project Survivor
My friend Dusty Showers who started the group called The 2nd Basemen, works so hard doing unusual things to raise money and awareness for breast cancer. You may have seen pictures of him on facebook wearing a pink bra and a pink cowboy hat. He has came up with this idea called "Project Survivor". "The idea of this project is to give the gift of the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure™ to a recent breast cancer Survivor. The 2nd Basemen will provide the emotional support, the physical equipment and the financial backing necessary to complete this life-changing event. It is our wish to provide this experience in each of the 15 host cities for the 3-Day across the country." This is a huge commitment for them since each walker commits to raising a minimum of $2,300. Dusty has the amazing opportunity to talk about this cause on "The Oprah Winfrey" show on May 5. We are hoping this will help him to raise the funds that it will take to accomplish this. They have not found a survivor in each host city yet but I am sure they will soon. If you know any "Survivor" in any of the 3-day cities who would be a good candidate for this project, let us know. I am so excited to announce that The 2nd Basemen have chosen Joanne Jinks from my team "Kat's Courage" to be the Atlanta survivor. Joanne was diagnosed shortly after I was and had many complications along the way. She also went through this battle as a single mom. She is really excited about this opportunity to celebrate being a survivor in such a great way. I have accepted the job as "Survivor Specialist" for Atlanta. This basically means that I will be Joanne's official cheerleader. This is such a great project to me. When I was recovering from chemo therapy and surgery(bi lateral mastectomy), I began to feel like I was getting my life back as I started training for the 3-day and raising money. There is no feeling like walking into closing ceremonies after training for months and walking ( hobbling) 60 miles over 3 days. Thousands of people cheering for you who have all given so much time and money and support to this cause. I can't wait to be there walking hand in hand with Joanne as she gets to experience this great event.

training for the 3-day
We have 28 weeks until the 3-day so why am I already starting to train? Walking 60 miles over 3 days is not an easy task for anyone. It takes a lot of determination. I want to enjoy the time walking with my team and celebrating life as a "survivor" instead of hobbling along on blistered feet and praying for a sweep van to come along and pick me up. I have struggled with my weight for years and I want to put this issue behind me. There are 3 big reasons why I want to lose weight and get in shape and stay in shape. One of the biggest reasons is because, maintaining a healthy weight and regular exercise can cut my chance of reoccurance by 50%. That is a huge amount. I don't want to ever face cancer again. There is so much about cancer that is not in my control but this is one thing I can do. Weight gain is also one of the causes of lymphedema www.lymphedema.com, which is something I don't want to have to suffer through either. The 2nd big reason is my children. I want them to see exercise and eating healthy as a way of life and not just some diet plan that comes and goes since this can cut their chances considerably of developing cancer and also heart disease which is the other big killer!. The 3rd big reason is that I want to feel good and be able to keep up with my 2 active kids and my active husband. There are 28 weeks until the walk and I am excited to get moving. At this point, my plan is to get used to walking regularly again. My goal right now is to start walking approx. 3 miles a day 4 times a week and I also am going to do some kind of cross training at least 1 time a week. Let's get started!! Who is going to join me?
